You Are Perfect Just As You Are (and can use a little improvement): A Guided Meditation

Begin by bringing your attention to your breath and body. Take a few deep breaths, breathing all the way in and all the way out. See if you can notice when your exhale ends and your inhale begins.
With each breath, let go of the thoughts and concerns of the day. As thoughts and feelings arise, note them, and bring your attention back to your breath, and to your body.

Now, let yourself imagine all the things you want to change about yourself, your self-improvement plans, plans for growth and change, anything about yourself you want to be different – imagine these are either inconsequential or unimportant, or complete, done, finished. Whatever that means for you, just imagine that right now, you are perfect just as you are. Nothing more needs to change; nothing needs to be different.

See if you can let this seep into your mind and body – you are perfect just as you are; whatever that might mean for you. With each breath – nothing needs to change; you are perfect just as you are.

Now bring your attention to your breath and to your body; with energy, with focus, and a sense of being relaxed and complete. Let yourself feel peaceful, happy, open.

Bring your attention to your breath and body; letting go of perfection, letting go of improvement.

Now slowly and gently return to your day.
How was that?

Why explore “you are perfect just as you are” – it is an antidote to getting caught in the cycle of wanting to be different, of striving for change. Sometimes the best way to grow and change is to foster a sense of acceptance, of ease and of happiness.
